The GPS500 is a precision IRIG-B or SMPTE time code generator. It provides a source of very stable time code, referencing time and date information from atomic clocks in the GPS satellite constellation. It extracts timing reference from these signals and generates time code that is synchronized within less than 10 microseconds of UTC (Universal Coordinated Time).

  • Generates SMPTE, EBU or IRIG-B Time Codes
  • Synchronized to atomic clocks in GPS satellites
  • Provides legally traceable time to UTC
  • -11.5 to +12 hour time zone offsets in 30-minute increments
  • Automatic Daylight Saving Time
  • NMEA/Kinemetrics/Truetime serial protocol output
  • Wide DC power supply input range: 12 to 48 VDC
  • Switch selectable Time Zone and DST
  • Switch selectable format and baud rate

Time Reference

  • When synchronized, the Time Code accuracy is:
    • SMPTE output accuracy of ± 20 microseconds
    • IRIG-B0 (DCLS/PWM) output accuracy of ± 90 microseconds
    • IRIG-B1 (AM) output accuracy of ± 1.4 milliseconds
    • PPS output accuracy of ± 60 nanoseconds
  • Should the GPS500 lose GPS signal it will revert to an internal TCXO oscillator and maintain an accuracy of ± 1 minute per year. The PPS output is synchronized to the internal TCXO oscillator.

  • SMPTE Time Code
    • SMPTE, EBU:30, 25 or 24fps
  • IRIG-B Time Code
    • IRIG-B: 1 kHz modulated, level – 5 Vpp
    • IRIG-B: unmodulated, single ended 5 V
  • PPS
    • 5 V-TTL, accuracy ± 60 nanoseconds (when synchronized to GPS)
    • Pulse width configurable via switch from ~200 ms to ~1 ms
  • Serial output via RS-232/RS-485  NMEA  Kinemetrics/Truetime protocol
  • Date encoded references (IRIG 1344 and SMPTE Leitch date format or 309M)
